Workin' Mama

Well, I went back to work this week! Sort of. I only work part-time, and there was a holiday this week, so it was just 2 days. Next week will be two and a half days, so that's a stretch! Whew! And then we are out until August 17th!

People ask me if I cried when I left Noah...and truthfully, no I didn't. I felt a little guilty about leaving and a little guilty that I was kind of excited to go back! Ah, the conundrums (?) of motherhood. Going back to work was like getting a little piece of myself and my normal life back. Plus, adult conversations are always lovely. :) Another reason to love having help during the week! I did miss that little guy though, and got plenty of snuggles in when I got home!

For one thing, Mamaw provided us with child care, so leaving Noah with Jeremy's mom, whom he already knows, in his own home, was not a big deal. (And we were soooo grateful! The woman is a trooper, helping with the cooking, dishes, laundry, dirty diapers, and even covered a nighttime feeding for us!) Thank you Mamaw!

On another note, check out these pictures Stacie sent me in a cool double frame. I just think this is so awesome. The top one is my mom holding me the day I was born and the bottom is me holding Noah the day he was born.

6 Weeks and First Road Trip!

On Friday, Noah was 6 weeks old. The next day we decided to make a trip to Wichita Falls to visit Jeremy's parents for a Memorial Day cookout and spend the night. We had not visited in 6 months and wanted to check out the new updates to their house, plus Jeremy wanted to help his dad with some projects. I was excited to get away from our house for a while. So after hours of planning and preparing to take off with a baby, we set out.

The trip up there went pretty well. Once we arrived, Noah didn't seem to adjust too well to the changes in his schedule. He couldn't stay awake to eat and couldn't stay asleep because he was too hungry. I think it was just a bit overstimulating for him at this point. So we packed up the motherload and headed back home that night. I swear the boy did not even blink on the way home! He cried half the way, we had to stop six times, and he finally conked out around 9pm as we drove into Flower Mound. Exhausting! Then he actually slept until 2am, which meant that he really wore himself out. No more road trips for a while!

Last week was eventful too. We made two trips to the doctor. The first was for goopy eyes. The doctor thinks he has clogged tear ducts. (Yes, I tried the breastmilk but they are still clogged.) The next day we had to have him checked out after Jeremy tripped over the ottoman with him and fell against the crib. It just scared him (and us!) more than anything. He was totally fine. I told Noah it was a good day to ask Daddy for that pony because he was feeling pretty horrible about it.

Hope everyone had a great weekend! I am back to work tomorrow, briefly before school ends. Here's to a certain little man sleeping through the night soon!

My Super Talented Baby

Noah just turned over by himself! I know he did it but was it just an accident? He was doing a little tummy time and just flipped over. I'm pretty sure he's too young for that right?

Here is the video I took right after.

He's so advanced! :)

One Month Old!

Well, yesterday. Noah had his one month pediatrician appointment today and is doing great. He is up to 8 pounds, 11 ounces, and 20 inches. I can't believe he has gained more than 2 pounds since his know, just the other day! He also got his second Hep B vaccine and I think I cried more than he did. And apparently all the spit up is okay since he is gaining weight so nicely.

Some things I want to remember about Noah's first month:

  • Sleep deprivation. My sister-in-law joked that there is a reason the CIA uses this as torture.
  • How happy and alert he is in the mornings after his first feeding. I suppose I should say his approximately 9:00 am feeding. :) He is even happy about being changed and loves it when you talk to him.
  • The way he nuzzles his little head into my neck when I lay him up on my chest.
  • Sometimes the third time is a charm. Like the 3rd clean diaper at 4:00 am after he has pooped and peed on the first two attempts.
  • Little smiles. Especially the half-smiles that make him look just a little smart-alecky.
  • The way he purses his lips that I have yet to capture in a photo.

Happy Mother's Day!

I feel like I'm in a new club today! It's my first Mother's Day and Noah is one month old today! Noah gave me a footprint mold and a singing card and Jeremy gave me white roses. He also made chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast and is making his famous fried chicken tenders and sweet potato fries as I type! One day soon, he is going to clean out a flower bed in the backyard and plant some hydrangeas for me, which was my gift request. :) What a great first mommy day!

Here are Noah's newborn portraits. I was bummed that the photographer never got to come because of all the cloudy days, so we just took him in to a studio instead.

I hope all you moms out there in Blogger land are having a great day too!

Little Squirt

I love this picture. Except that my camera software won't let me airbrush his baby acne. :) I thought this towel was very appropriate for him after he simultaneously shot poop AND pee in two different directions as soon as I took the diaper off the other day. Have I mentioned that I am frustrated with my camera because the pictures are often grainy or blurry? And I am no good at reading instructions! I suspect that somehow the megapixels need to be adjusted since it is supposed to have 8 of them.
Here is a good one of Noah with Mamaw. She and Mimi have helped out a lot since he came home and Noah really misses them when they are gone. Okay, maybe Amy misses them's so hard to get anything done when you are a one-woman show! We are very grateful for all the help.

Mandi, Dominick, and Sophia visited this week. (Jeremy's sister, nephew, and niece.) They were pretty funny and very excited about seeing their new cousin. Sophia refers to Noah as an "it" and we are not sure that she really understands that he is a real baby. Dom was very good and gentle with him. Check out the video.
